The last of the art auctions for the year takes place at LRI Design Plaza on December 14.
Art happenings are not lacking this time of the year despite the mad rush in the metro for last-minute holiday shopping and attending festive gatherings.
“Holiday Opulence” brings together rare art works by the great Filipino masters, plus some luxury pieces like watches and fine jewelry for the Christmas stockings.
It’s the third auction by Gallery 928 owner Jeffrey G. Dimalanta whose last event, “Echoes of Rarity,” last September was received well by collectors and opened new doors to expand the market as well.
“It has been a truly enlightening experience in numerous ways. More people came unexpectedly and this surge in attendance can be attributed to our enhanced marketing strategy, which included social media promotions and targeted advertisements. As a result, we were able to attract a diverse crowd of collectors, enthusiasts, and curious individuals,” he observed.

“Moreover, the event allowed us to develop partnerships with more consignors, expanding our network and gaining access to rare and unique items. This, in turn, enabled us to offer our audience a more impressive and eclectic range of pieces, further enriching their overall experience,” Dimalanta added.
“Holiday Opulence” has 149 lots and is a mix of the usual art auction darlings and the rare appearance of masters that are gaining a resurgence of interest among art scholars and collectors lately. Up for auction are the remarkable works of old masters like H.R. Ocampo’s untitled still life of jars and vases (1966), Macario Vitalis’ “The Nativity” (1960), Malang’s “Pahiyas” (1963), Eduardo Castrillo’s “The Natural Bonding” (2007), and Manuel Baldemor’s “Xian Shooting Warrior” in impasto (1987) rendered in his untypical style.

Pioneering modernist painter Nena Saguil’s untitled painting rendered in watercolor on paper (1972) is likewise up for auction. Saguil was a featured artist at last year’s Art Fair and is one of three women painters in an ongoing retrospective at the Met Museum.
But, of course, if you want to further spoil and surprise your loved ones—or just gift yourself this holiday season—also on auction are Rolex, Cartier, and Omega watches, diamond rings and necklaces, gold bracelets, vintage furniture, coffee table books, and other surprise items.
Other masterpieces to check out in this curated selection are a Salvador Dali lithograph hand signed by the legend himself, an Ang Kiu Kok digital print, and works by Gus Albor, Pandy Aviado, Manuel Baldemor, Gabriel Barredo, Emilio Aguilar Cruz, Edgar Doctor, Jose Joya, Justin Nuyda, Romulo Olazo, Onib Olmedo, Ramon Orlina, Fernando Sena, Juvenal Sanso, Ernesto Verroya, Hugo Yonzon, Reb Belleza, and Jao Mapa, among others.

For “Holiday Opulence,” Dimalanta encourages participants to “Get ready for a dazzling celebration of luxury and artistry. The crème de la crème of fine jewelry, exquisite carpets, and elegant furnishings will be on display, complemented by an impressive collection of artworks.”
