Attention, couch potatoes! Here’s what’s new on your favorite streaming sites

So much content, so little time.

That’s the universal mantra of couch potatoes like me in the age of streaming.

While these platforms afford us convenience, the number of choices can be overwhelming and mind-numbing. Sometimes, I spend more time choosing what to watch than actually watching something. I’m sure you’ve found yourselves in the same predicament.

To help you choose which series or movie to stream next, The POST checked out some of the most popular streaming sites to see what’s got everyone glued to their screens at the moment.

Netflix

Over the weekend, Twitter was abuzz with two new Netflix shows many are raving about. First is Adolescence, which chronicles the social media-fueled killing of a female classmate by a 13-year-old boy.

Then there’s The Residence, the newest whodunit on the block. Set in the White House, the mystery starts during a state dinner honoring Australia when A.B. Wynter (Giancarlo Esposito), the head usher of the White House, is found dead. The chief of the D.C. police brings in the brilliant detective Cordelia Cupp (Uzo Aduba) to help solve the case.

Both Adolescence and The Residence are proving to be a hit among critics and audiences so far, earning a spot each on my to-watch list.

Korean content fans are in for a feast as one drama launches after another on Netflix. Earlier this month, we were delighted at the premiere of two 16-episoders, both wonderful in their own right: the charming The Potato Lab (Lee Su-bin, Kang Tae-oh) and the enthralling When Life Gives You Tangerines (IU, Park Bo-gum). I’m enjoying both shows, and even did a First Look article on the latter. Thinking of doing a series review, too, as When Life Gives You Tangerines is shaping up to be one of the best K-dramas I’ve ever watched.

Disney+

Disney’s streaming platform hasn’t looked this exciting in a long time. A cursory glance at the home page reveals there’s something new for just about everyone, from award-winning films to documentaries. There are also a few promising Asian series that have just launched.

Critically acclaimed A Real Pain, is already up for streaming. The film starring the talented duo of Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin (whose portrayal of troubled Benji won him just about every supporting actor award out there), is a highly recommended watch and which I recently reviewed for The POST. Families with kids will be thrilled to know that Moana 2 is now available for streaming. Oh, it also has its own sing-along version for the little ones who love to belt it out!

Love documentaries? Disney+ recently started streaming The Last Days of Gene Hackman, which is rather quick, as the legendary actor died only last February under circumstances that are equal parts baffling and heartbreaking.

Disney+ has also released specials on the live action adaptation of Snow White and the upcoming season of Star Wars’ Andor , which I’m so looking forward to! Starring the charismatic Diego Luna, the second and final installment of what is arguably the franchise’s best series (even better than The Mandalorian, which I loved deeply) will premiere on April 22.

K-drama junkies can start streaming Hyper Knife, the latest from Park Eun-bin, where she plays a genius surgeon out to confront her mentor who ruined her life. I was also pleasantly surprised to find out that the second season of the Japanese thriller Gannibal is already out. The first season of this spookfest was one for my favorite series in 2022. Very highly recommended.

Max

Over at Max, couch potatoes sure have much to be pleased about with ongoing hit series such as The White Lotus, Suits LA, and The Pitt. I’m a fan of the first two seasons of The White Lotus, but I have yet to watch a single episode of the new season as I thought it better to just binge-watch the whole lot of them. The series has been generating a lot of buzz, especially after the latest episode which ventured into a very controversial territory.

As a Lord of the Rings fan, I was very happy when I saw that Max Philippines already carries the animated series The War of the Rohirrim, which tells the story of the legendary King of Rohan.

In terms of movies, Max is already streaming the Ryan Gosling-Emily Blunt starrer Fall Guy, the thriller Abigail, the animated film Transformers One, and quite a number of old-time favorites such as Pride and Prejudice, Pulp Fiction, The Silver Linings Playbook, Interstellar, Gladiator, and many more. I have to say I’m rather impressed by the depth of Max’s library.

But what I’m most excited about is yet to drop—the second season of The Last of Us starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsay which premiered on April 13.

Apple TV

Apple TV has some of the best series out there but hardly anyone is watching. Oh well, they have to beef up their marketing game somehow. Anyway, the second season of the critically acclaimed series Severance has just ended. Maybe it’s a sign for me—and you—to finally find the time to watch it. The series follows Mark, who leads a team of office workers whose memories have been surgically divided between their work and personal lives. Very compelling stuff from what I’ve read so far about the series.

Premiering today, March 26, is The Studio, which stars Seth Rogen as the chaotic new head of a Hollywood film studio. He is joined by Catherine O’Hara, Kathryn Hahn, and Ike Barinholtz.

Apple TV has also recently announced that its most popular series, Ted Lasso, will be back for a fourth season
