‘90s poster girl Winona Ryder is the face of Jimmy Choo’s fall-winter campaign

Daniel Craig, Greta Lee, Nicola Coughlan also star in fall-winter campaigns for global brands.

Hollywood in the ‘90s was a mood. Think Johnny Depp and his messy dating life, Julia Roberts’ unrivaled reign as America’s sweetheart, Hugh Grant charming us all with his bumbling antics, and a slew of now-iconic films like Fight Club, Clueless, Notting Hill, The Matrix, and a whole lot more.

Then there’s Winona Ryder, the ultimate poster girl for everything that was cool (and goth) about that decade. Catapulted to worldwide stardom through the film Reality Bites, the brunette beauty has had her fair share of scandals, most infamous of which is the shoplifting fiasco that saw her take a break from tinseltown. She was able to bounce back, further solidifying her filmography and her status as a Hollywood and fashion icon.

With a face card that doesn’t decline until now, and an always on-point sense of what’s fashionable, Winona (still can’t shake that Depp tattoo off my head) is forever an it girl. And Jimmy Choo knows this, that’s why he tapped the 52-year-old actress to be the face of his über-chic fall 2024 campaign.

The ageless Winona Ryder is the face of Jimmy Choo’s AW2024 campaign and collection.

Winona makes goth cool again as she dons scarlet, black, and cream in the campaign posters. “Winona is iconic in her style and her acting,” said Sandra Choi, the label’s creative director, in a statement. She added that Winona’s films and style are symbolic of the decade that shaped Jimmy Choo’s early years as a brand.

“Winona’s talent combined with her individuality and ‘90s legacy felt perfect to represent this collection,” she added.

An Academy Award nominated actress, she is also known for her roles in Edward Scissorhands, Heathers, Little Women, The Age of Innocence, Girl Interrupted, Black Swan, the upcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and the hit Netflix TV series Stranger Things.

Most recently, Winona starred in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, a sequel to the 1988 hit Beetlejuice, reprising her role from 36 years ago. Quite interesting is how her visuals in the campaign are not unlike the looks she and Jenna Ortega just coincidentally wore on the Venice Film Festival red carpet.

The Jimmy Choo campaign was conceived by Paris-based art directors Ezra Petronio and Lana Petrusevych of Petronio Associates, and photographed by Petronio. The campaign “evokes the pared-back style and cultural reset of the late 90s; as embodied by Winona – an icon, then and now.”

As per the brand, the minimalist set “references a gallery-like space” with the focus firmly on Ryder, looking much younger than her 52 years, and the brand’s seasonal signature footwear, bags, and eyewear.

Star studded fall/winter campaigns

Fashionistas are always looking forward to fall and winter. These two seasons mean getting to don chic outerwear, layer outfits, and shop for on-trend transitional pieces.

And this year’s autumn and winter collections are indeed something to look forward to, with many fashion labels leveraging the star power of many Hollywood and runway A-listers to boost their campaigns.

There’s Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson and Bridgerton breakout star Nicola Coughlan for Kate Spade New York and Australian pop star Troye Sivan for Gap. Kaia Gerber looks like she’s having a busy season as she models for both the fall-winter collections of DKNY and Chloé.

US-based shoemaker Stuart Weitzman, meanwhile, banked on the beauty and grace of actresses Issa Rae and Lucy Liu. Skims, an American shapewear and clothing brand co-founded by Kim Kardashian, tapped on the smoldering visuals of singer-songwriter Charli XCX.

Among my favorites so far are Greta Lee (my current girl crush!) and Daniel Craig for Spanish luxury fashion house Loewe. The Past Lives actress’ jawline looks like it could cut through glass and diamonds, while the former James Bond is still too hot to handle at 56.

French luxury label Chanel, on the other hand, is banking on the youthful elegance of American model and actress Camila Morrone for its AW campaign.

Other labels haven’t released their fall/winter campaigns yet and we sure can’t wait to see who will wear who in the coming days!
