A visual tribute: 20 unforgettable Giorgio Armani red carpet looks

The designer reshaped Hollywood fashion, one iconic look at a time.

Giorgio Armani, one of the most influential designers in fashion history, has passed away. The Armani Group confirmed that he died peacefully in Milan on September 4, 2025, at the age of 91. The news comes just weeks before what would have been a major celebration of the brand’s 50th anniversary at Milan Fashion Week.

Armani launched his label in 1975 and became known for his clean style. He softened the suit for men, gave women a more relaxed but strong way to dress, and built a fashion empire. He didn’t chase trends, he actually created his own.

He was also one of the first designers to dress Hollywood stars consistently for red carpet appearances long before stylists became fixtures and designer credits went viral. He didn’t just send clothes; he worked closely with actors, publicists, and award show teams to craft looks that matched the moment.

How Armani ruled the red carpet

The 1990 Oscars marked a turning point. That night, Armani dressed Jodie Foster, Julia Roberts, Jessica Lange, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Jessica Tandy—cementing his grip on the Hollywood fashion scene. In the press, the ceremony was dubbed “the Armani Awards.”

Julia Roberts’ oversized gray suit at the Golden Globes that same year became a fashion moment in itself. Later, he would dress Cate Blanchett in flowing silk, Rihanna in a crop top, and Lady Gaga in one of her most iconic Grammy looks.  His designs have since become staples at Cannes, the Met Gala, and nearly every awards show.

To honor his legacy, here’s a look back at some of Giorgio Armani’s unforgettable red carpet moments:
