The Spanish luxury brand marks this milestone by releasing a Puzzle 10 collection with 19 re-editions, along with one entirely new design.
Throughout the history of luxury bags, trends have come and gone by. Among the bags that have remained coveted by the rich and famous through the many years in the mostly fickle fashion industry are Hermes’ Birkin and Kelly; Louis Vuitton’s Speedy and Neverfull; Fendi’s Baguette, Prada’s Re-edition bag, Givenchy’s Antigona, and Chanel’s Flap bag.
Then there is, of course, Loewe’s iconic Puzzle bag which celebrates its 10th birthday this year.

A paragon of innovation and functionality
When it first hit stores in 2015, the Puzzle bag’s unique cuboid look, which looks like a piece of origami, took the fashion world by storm—and its popularity and desirability endures to this day. Celebrities continue to wear it, from Beyoncé to Sienna Miller, Cate Blanchett to Julianne Moore, Ayo Edebiri to Kate Bosworth. Even the late Dame Maggie Smith is a known fan of the bag. Esteemed fashion magazines, such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, have also etched a spot for Jonathan Anderson’s much loved and lauded creation in their timeless bags lists.

One look at the Puzzle bag and you’d know it’s the Puzzle bag—despite the bag having no monogram nor logo hardware. Its design is that iconic. But underneath its distinct geometric exterior, with its clean, precise lines and interlocking triangular panels, is an incredibly meticulous and complex construction process. A few fun facts: each Puzzle bag is made from 75 pieces of leather, is handmade in Madrid, and takes a skilled leather artisan nine painstaking hours to make. The product, indeed, of the marriage of innovation and craftsmanship.
The Puzzle bag is proof that fashionable can also be functional. It can be worn as a shoulder bag, crossbody, tote, or clutch. It’s available in large, medium, small, and mini; in calfskin of different varieties like shiny, soft-grained, and satin; and in colors including sand, black, and seasonal animations. It can go well with a pretty sundress on a brunch out with friends, or with your favorite little black dress for a more formal dinner event.

It is also the perfect blank canvas for creative expression, lending well to countless reimaginations and reconfigurations. With the Puzzle Bag’s versatility and functionality, fashion experts have dubbed it as the “modern ‘it’ bag for a heritage company.”
“I set out to find a new way of building a bag, fundamentally questioning its structure,” said Anderson in 2015, when he was still Loewe’s creative director. “It was about deconstructing a conventional bag to create a flat object with a tridimensional function.” Another fun fact: the Puzzle bag is Anderson’s first bag design for the house!
With the Loewe Puzzle bag, Anderson’s legacy, not only in Loewe—which he left early this year—but in the luxury fashion industry has been firmly cemented. The bag’s timelessness and distinguishability have also made it synonymous with and emblematic of the 179-year-old Spanish label.

A new collection of re-editions, one new design
As the Puzzle bag celebrates a decade of inspiring fashionistas and creatives around the world, Loewe is set to release a Puzzle 10 collection with 19 re-editions from past collections, along with one entirely new design on May 29th, per its official website.

The 19 re-editions reflect the Puzzle bag’s many inspirations, from William Morris and American artist Joe Brainard to pixels and anime characters. Each highlights the techniques used in the Puzzle bag’s history: applique, embroidery, embossing, printing, cross-stitch and patchwork, used alongside Loewe’s signature leather marquetry.
Meanwhile, the newest “Confetti” design is adorned with thousands of tiny leather and metal sequins, referencing the sculptural cubes of compressed confetti which Italian artist Lara Favaretto created for the house’s fall 2023 women’s runway show.

The anniversary collection is completed by the mischievous Puzz — Loewe’s adorable character crafted into 20 charms each representing an edition of the Puzzle bag. Every bag in the collection features a commemorative metal plaque and comes with two Loewe balloon charms and a mini jigsaw puzzle.
The 19-piece capsule will be available in select Loewe stores around the world, with a dedicated pop-up at Bergdorf Goodman in New York which will showcase all the re-editions, with selected ones to be displayed in the store’s Fifth Avenue windows.
