Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons remix past and future in a playful, unexpected celebration of individuality and creativity.
Prada’s spring-summer 2025 show at Milan Fashion Week was everything we’ve come to expect from the fashion house—bold, innovative, and full of surprises.
Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons once again proved that they are masters of blending the past, present, and future, crafting a collection that felt both nostalgic and forward-thinking. This season, the duo explored a fascinating mix of superhero imagery, sci-fi elements, and internet culture, offering up a playful yet thought-provoking runway that kept audiences on the edge of their seats.
Prada leaned into its archives, reviving fan-favorites like 2012’s rocket shoes and platform brogues alongside last year’s jellyfish-inspired dresses. The show felt as though an algorithm had randomly selected pieces from different seasons—creating unexpected combinations that were fresh, playful, and surprising.
“There is a plurality of Prada,” the show notes explained, as the collection toyed with the concept of time and nostalgia, creating “impossible contradictions” through this playful mix of eras.
Bold colors like crimson and sky blue dominated the runway, invoking superhero-like individuality. While there were no actual capes, the dramatic layering of neon parkas over feathered gowns hinted at both protection and flair. Prada wasn’t just dressing us for the party—they were making sure we’d stay warm on the way.
In Prada’s own words from their Instagram caption: “The notion of the superhero represents an individual’s agency, the power of creativity as a means to transform.” This collection was all about celebrating personal style and the unique power that comes with it.
The collection also explored how our lives are shaped by the internet and algorithms, reflecting this digital theme in its designs. Some pieces had a “glitched” effect—collars were wired to stand up, straps defied gravity, and trompe l’oeil prints tricked the eye. It was a nod to how we constantly consume content online, where reality and the virtual world often blur. Prada captured this perfectly noting, “humanity, defined by its unpredictability, instinctively rejects the expected, contrasts with the algorithmically driven.”
While Prada’s designs often lean into high-concept fashion, this season also had a clear focus on comfort and practicality. Instead of the sky-high heels we’ve come to expect, the collection featured chunky sandals, platform brogues, and lace-up leather Derby shoes—signaling a possible end to the reign of the stiletto. Even the tights and leggings came in bold, playful colors like powder pink and pastel blue, with some looks featuring head-to-toe monochromatic outfits that hugged the body like a second skin.
This season’s accessories were equally attention-grabbing, with alien-like sunglasses and oversized straw visors adding a sci-fi touch to many of the looks.
Prada’s spring-summer 2025 collection was a celebration of contrasts. It was both nostalgic and futuristic, glamorous and gritty, predictable and surprising. Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons created a collection that broke the rules of fashion while still staying true to the brand’s identity.
As the show notes put it, “The notion of the superhero represents an individual’s agency, the power of creativity as a means to transform.” In a world dominated by algorithms and endless scrolling, Prada reminded us that fashion, like life, is unpredictable—and that’s exactly what makes it so exciting.
