Taylor Swift Spotify Wrapped

Taylor Swift is Spotify Wrapped Global Artist of the Year with 26.6 billion streams

Spotify Wrapped 2024 is finally out, and it’s here to prove one thing: No superstar can conquer the world quite like Taylor Swift

The billionaire pop star is the streaming platform’s Global Top Artist for the second year in a row, with three of her albums securing a spot in the list of most played albums of the year. She amassed a total of 26.6 billion streams, mostly from her latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” which topped 2024’s most streamed album on Spotify.

It comes as no wonder, especially because the singer-songwriter’s company, Taylor Swift Production, went above and beyond in their commercial strategies before and during the album’s release on April 19.

For one, they partnered with global streaming platforms, including Spotify, to generate anticipation from Swifties. Spotify, in particular, released a countdown clock that allowed them to pre-save the album before its release. Not only that, the streaming platform built a library installation in Los Angeles, California where Swifties lined up for hours to take photos in front of library shelves filled with Easter eggs.

All these and more paid off when, on the album’s release, Swift broke a monumental record of being the first artist to earn an impressive 300 million streams in a single day plus a billion streams in merely five days. Goes to show that Swift and her team are true marketing Masterminds and that their Manuscript is one that many celebrities or brands can learn from.

In addition to “The Tortured Poets Department,” this year’s Spotify Wrapped Most-Streamed Albums list features Swift’s 2023 re-recorded album “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” which ranked No. 6, as well as her 2019 hit album “Lover” at No. 8. Meanwhile, her dreamy and melancholic 2019 track Cruel Summer landed at No. 9 on the top 10 list of most-streamed songs worldwide.

To mark the 14-time Grammy winner’s milestone (and thank her millions of fans around the globe), Spotify added Easter egg animations on her albums on the streaming app and augmented reality friendship bracelets on Snapchat. In addition, Spotify created dedicated installations in several cities around the world, including Manila, Jakarta, New York, Los Angeles, London, Berlin, and Mexico.

Spotify Wrapped is the streaming app’s annual feature that reveals a user’s most streamed songs, artists, and genres from the past 12 months. Since the feature was launched in 2016, it has become an end-of-the-year tradition for audiophiles to check out their list and share them on social media.

According to Forbes, Spotify’s Wrapped marketing campaign has since been a huge hit for the app, with more than 156 million users accessing the feature in 2022 and 120 million users availing of the package in 2021. Meanwhile, Sprout Social, a social media analytics company based in Chicago, reported that 400 million posts had been made about Spotify Wrapped on X, three days after the feature’s release in 2022.
