For its 2025 Fall/Winter collection, Burberry proves outerwear is its strongest asset

The show took place at Tate Britain, bringing a collection that felt like a weekend escape to the countryside.

Daniel Lee, the brand’s current creative director, is making one thing clear: Burberry is all about outerwear. For Fall/Winter 2025, he reinforced this message by moving away from bright colors and bold prints. Instead, he focused on practical outerwear inspired by British heritage.

The show took place at Tate Britain, bringing a collection that felt like a weekend escape to the countryside. Lee, who grew up in Yorkshire, drew inspiration from long walks in nature and the interiors of grand estate homes. The result is a lineup of trenches, coats, and rain capes in deep browns, greens, and burgundy. Some pieces featured fur-lined hoods and delicate embroidery, adding a refined touch to their practicality.

The styling stayed true to the theme of warmth and comfort. Corduroy trousers, tartan kilts, and ribbed knit sets kept the looks grounded. Models carried oversized Burberry check umbrellas and weekend bags. Footwear ranged from sleek leather riding boots to thigh-high versions for harsher weather. The brand’s signature scarf also got a bold update with an exaggerated fringe.

Actors from The CrownBridgerton, and Downton Abbey walked the runway, a nod to how British film and TV shape style perceptions. Richard E. Grant, known for Saltburn, appeared in a wool coat with a thistle corsage, while The White Lotus and Harry Potter star Jason Isaacs wore a brown trench and carried a red tartan umbrella.

A standout moment came from a knight in full armor seated in the front row, adding a theatrical element to the show. Seen posing with celebrities like Nicholas Hoult and Damien Lewis, the knight became an unexpected symbol of Burberry’s historical influences. The show highlighted its one-year partnership with Tate Britain, which helps preserve priceless works at the museum’s renowned conservation studios.
