From Marvel’s new heroes and major ‘Rings of Power’ casting news to BINI’s international appearance, this year’s Comic-Con gave fans plenty to unpack.
I have always been a geek and a huge fan of comic conventions, even though I am still dreaming of attending one in person. Until that day comes, following the panels, surprises and fan reactions from afar has become a yearly habit and a passion of its own. San Diego Comic-Con 2026 gave me plenty to enjoy, from major Marvel reveals to exciting updates from Middle-earth and a proud moment for us Filipinos!
San Diego Comic-Con 2026 was held from July 23 to 26 at the San Diego Convention Center. Major studios used the four-day event to announce new movies, introduce cast members and preview upcoming television shows. Marvel presented its plans for Ghost Rider and Black Panther, while Prime Video shared new details about The Rings of Power. BINI also appeared during a DreamWorks Animation panel.
Here are the biggest announcements from SDCC 2026.
Avengers Doomsday brought its star-studded cast to Hall H
Avengers Doomsday had a major moment at Marvel’s Hall H presentation. Robert Downey Jr. appeared as the MCU’s new Doctor Doom, while Pedro Pascal represented the Fantastic Four as Reed Richards. Pascal confirmed that Reed and Doom share a mysterious past, which appears to be an important part of the movie.

Marvel also showed new footage suggesting that Doom has a connection to Reed and Sue Storm. The story will bring together heroes from the Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men franchises.
Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Simu Liu, Letitia Wright and several returning X-Men actors were among the cast members who appeared onstage.
Avengers Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026
Ryan Reynolds joined the crowd as Deadpool
Ryan Reynolds secretly walked around Comic-Con dressed as the gray X-Force version of Deadpool. He later revealed his identity during Marvel’s Hall H presentation. Reynolds appeared as a fan named Ricky and asked questions to members of the Avengers Doomsday cast, including Paul Rudd, Jeremy Renner and Robert Downey Jr.
The appearance was not connected to a new movie announcement, but it became one of the convention’s most favorite surprises.
Ryan Gosling will play Ghost Rider
Marvel Studios announced Ryan Gosling as the new Ghost Rider. The movie is scheduled for release in 2028 and will be directed by Shawn Levy, who previously directed Deadpool & Wolverine. Plot details and additional cast members have not yet been announced.
The project will give Gosling roles in both the Marvel and Star Wars franchises. He is also part of the cast of Star Wars Starfighter.
David Jonsson is the new Black Panther
David Jonsson will play T’Challa II, also known as Toussaint, in the third Black Panther movie.
Toussaint is the son of T’Challa and Nakia. The movie will follow him as he grows up and takes on the Black Panther mantle. Ryan Coogler will return as director. Letitia Wright and Winston Duke are also expected to return as Shuri and M’Baku, and the film is planned for release in 2028.
Jamie Campbell Bower joins The Rings of Power
Jamie Campbell Bower will play Celeborn in Season 3 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Celeborn is Galadriel’s husband, who has been missing throughout the earlier seasons. His return is expected to add a more personal storyline for Galadriel as the war against Sauron grows.
Simon Pegg is also joining the cast as the voice of the Balrog known as Durin’s Bane. The show’s creators said the Balrog will be presented as an intelligent and dangerous character rather than simply a monster.
Season 3 takes place several years after Season 2. It follows Sauron as he works to create the One Ring during the war between his forces and the elves. The season premieres November 11 on Prime Video.
BINI performs at the Forgotten Island panel
BINI appeared during the DreamWorks Animation panel for the upcoming movie Forgotten Island. The Filipino pop group performed “A Parallel World,” a song included on the movie’s soundtrack. All eight members took part in the performance.

Liza Soberano and H.E.R. were also part of the panel. They voice the film’s main characters, Raissa and Jo. The appearance gave BINI another opportunity to reach an international audience while bringing Filipino representation to one of the world’s largest pop-culture conventions.
So much to unpack after SDCC 2026
With so many announcements packed into one weekend, fans have a lot to unpack. From Marvel’s new heroes and the growing world of The Rings of Power to BINI’s international appearance and Doomsday creating so much buzz, SDCC 2026 offered something for almost every kind of fan.
Now comes the fun part. We can revisit the biggest moments, discuss our favorite surprises and look forward to seeing these movies and shows finally arrive on our screens.
