SB19 steps into a new role—this time as ambassadors for Philippine tourism

Fresh from a string of international milestones, the P-pop powerhouse has added another distinction to its growing list of achievements.

SB19 is taking its influence beyond the stage after being named among the Philippines’ newest tourism ambassadors by the Department of Tourism (DOT), marking another milestone in the P-pop group’s growing international journey.

The appointment, announced on July 26, sees Pablo, Josh, Stell, Ken, and Justin joining the DOT’s efforts to promote the Philippines to both local and international travelers. They follow fellow P-pop sensation BINI, which was also tapped as a tourism ambassador earlier this month, underscoring the agency’s increasing reliance on Filipino music as a vehicle for destination marketing.

The recognition comes amid one of the busiest periods in SB19’s career. The group recently became the first homegrown Filipino act to perform at Lollapalooza, one of the world’s biggest music festivals, while also preparing for appearances at the Grammy Museum’s Global Spin Live series and a ceremonial first pitch at a Major League Baseball game in Chicago. These milestones continue to expand the global reach of both the group and P-pop.

For the DOT, the appointment reflects a strategy of promoting the Philippines through its contemporary cultural exports besides the country’s fount of attractions. Around the world, music has slowly become an effective tourism driver, with fans often developing an interest in visiting the places associated with the artists they admire. By enlisting two of the country’s biggest P-pop acts, the agency hopes to translate international fan enthusiasm into actual visits to the Philippines.

SB19 has already demonstrated its ability to attract visitors. Earlier this year, the DOT recognized the tourism impact of the group’s Wakas at Simula: The Trilogy Concert Finale, which drew fans from overseas to Manila and generated activity for hotels, restaurants, and other local businesses.

The ambassadorship is also indicative of SB19’s long-standing commitment to representing the Philippines in the global orbit. Since their breakthrough, the quintet has consistently highlighted Filipino talent, culture, and identity through their music and international appearances, helping introduce the country to audiences far beyond its borders.

As tourism ambassadors, SB19 now carries a role that extends beyond entertainment. Alongside BINI, the group is expected to showcase not only Philippine destinations but also the creativity, culture, and hospitality that continue to shape the nation’s image abroad.

As P-pop’s international momentum grows, the DOT is betting that the journey from discovering Filipino music to discovering the Philippines itself is a natural next step.
