Australia’s 10-year visa for Filipinos: Fees, requirements, and rules to know

First introduced in December 2024 and drawing renewed attention, the visa costs AU$1,845 or approximately ₱80,700.

Australia is giving eligible Filipino travelers a longer window to explore the Land Down Under, with a multiple-entry visitor visa that can remain valid for up to 10 years. For frequent flyers, families with relatives overseas, and professionals pursuing international business opportunities, the arrangement could mean fewer visa applications and greater flexibility in planning future trips.

The option, introduced for eligible Filipinos in December 2024 and drawing renewed attention this October, falls under Australia’s Visitor Visa (Subclass 600), Frequent Traveller Stream. According to the Australian Department of Home Affairs, the visa costs AU$1,845, or approximately ₱80,700 based on the peso estimate circulating in recent reports.

Still, a decade-long visa doesn’t mean a decade-long stay. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements, demonstrate genuine travel intentions, and comply with strict entry and residency limits.

Australia’s Frequent Traveller Stream allows eligible passport holders to enter the country multiple times during the visa’s validity period, which can extend to 10 years.

Each visit, however, is limited to three months, while the total time spent in Australia must not exceed 12 months within any 24-month period. Leaving the country and returning doesn’t automatically reset this cumulative limit.

The visa covers holidays, family visits, cruises, permitted business visitor activities, and short-term studies lasting up to three months. It doesn’t authorize regular employment, permanent residence, or unrestricted stays.

As explained by EMC Australia, the arrangement is designed for frequent visitors, not individuals intending to settle or work in Australia. Approval is also discretionary: meeting the nationality requirement doesn’t automatically guarantee a visa valid for the full 10 years.

Who qualifies for the 10-year visa?

Visitors explore the vibrant Graffiti Lane, showcasing Melbourne’s colorful street art and creative culture.

Filipino citizens are among the eligible nationalities, alongside passport holders from China, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Timor-Leste.

To qualify, applicants must hold a valid passport, apply while outside Australia, and remain outside the country until a decision is issued. They must also satisfy health and character requirements, demonstrate sufficient financial resources, and establish that their visits will be temporary.

Frequent travel may support the purpose of an application, but a strong passport or previous international trips alone won’t guarantee approval. Australian immigration authorities assess each applicant’s circumstances, supporting evidence, and intended activities.

What documents and requirements should Filipinos prepare?

Applicants should prepare a complete set of documents supporting their identity, financial capacity, travel purpose, and intention to return to the Philippines.

While documentary requirements vary depending on individual circumstances, the following are important:

  • Personal identification: A valid Philippine passport, relevant identity documents, and proof of name changes, if applicable.
  • Financial documents: Bank statements, evidence of savings, income records, or other documents establishing sufficient funds for the trip.
  • Employment or business records: Certificates of employment, approved leave, business registration documents, or other evidence of professional and financial ties to the Philippines.
  • Travel information: Proposed itineraries, accommodation arrangements, and details of previous international travel, where relevant.
  • Proof of personal ties: Documents establishing family responsibilities, property ownership, or other commitments supporting the intention to return home.
  • Health and character documentation: Medical examinations or police clearances if requested by immigration authorities.

These are supporting documents, not an identical mandatory checklist for every applicant. Additional information may be required depending on the applicant’s circumstances.

Families must also file separate applications for each member, including children. A parent’s visa approval doesn’t automatically extend to their spouse or dependents.

How much do Australian visitor visas cost for Filipinos?

Philippine passports remain an essential travel document for Filipinos planning overseas trips and visa applications.

The 10-year option comes with a substantially higher application charge than a conventional tourist visa. For Filipinos planning occasional holidays, the standard Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) may be a more practical alternative.

According to the Australian government’s published visa charges, these are the applicable starting fees as of October 2026:

Visa categoryApplication fee (AUD)Approximate fee (PHP)
Tourist Stream (application outside Australia)AUD 250₱11,119
Tourist Stream (application inside Australia)From AUD 630From ₱28,019
Business Visitor StreamAUD 250₱11,119
Sponsored Family StreamAUD 250₱11,119
Frequent Traveller Stream (up to 10 years)AUD 1,845₱82,054

Peso equivalents are estimates based on the October 21, 2026 exchange rate. Actual costs may vary depending on exchange rates, payment charges, and additional application expenses.

The standard tourist visa may permit a stay of three, six, or 12 months, depending on the visa granted. Single-entry and multiple-entry permissions are determined by immigration authorities; they aren’t separate fixed-fee categories.

For the 10-year visa, the frequently reported ₱80,700 figure is only an approximate peso conversion, not a fixed Philippine government fee. The Australian Department of Home Affairs’ fee guidance confirms that charges are assessed in Australian dollars and may change.

Additional expenses may include biometric collection, medical examinations, police certificates, and payment surcharges. Visa application charges are generally not refunded if an application is refused.

How can Filipinos apply?

Applications must be lodged online through Australia’s official ImmiAccount system.

The process begins by selecting the appropriate visa stream, completing the application form, uploading supporting documents, and paying the required fee. Applicants should ensure that their declared travel purpose, financial information, and personal details are accurate and consistent.

The Australian Embassy in the Philippines also requires visa applicants to complete biometric collection unless exempt. After receiving a biometric request, applicants should arrange an appointment promptly, generally within the prescribed 14-day period.

Australian Biometrics Collection Centres operate in Manila, Cebu, and Davao, providing fingerprint scanning and facial photograph services. Applicants may also be asked to complete health examinations or submit additional documents during assessment.

What should travelers remember before booking?

A visa with a 10-year validity period offers convenience, but compliance remains essential. Visa holders must observe the three-month limit per visit, monitor their cumulative time in Australia, and respect all conditions specified in their grant notice.

They must also maintain a valid passport and notify immigration authorities of relevant changes to their personal or passport details. Australia’s Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) service allows travelers to verify their visa validity and conditions.

The Frequent Traveller visa cannot simply be extended to allow a longer stay. Applicants who intend to work, pursue longer studies, or relocate permanently must explore the appropriate visa category.

For Filipinos with frequent family commitments, recurring business engagements, or regular holidays in Australia, the arrangement offers a potentially convenient travel option. The decision ultimately depends on how often they expect to visit, whether they meet the requirements, and whether the higher upfront cost makes financial sense.

After all, the advantage isn’t the freedom to remain in Australia for a decade, but the possibility of returning repeatedly over one.
