Britney Spears grooves with Balenciaga on limited-edition merch and playlist

The surprise collaboration features 12 ready-to-wear pieces and a playlist curated by the pop icon herself.

Hit me baby one more time! Britney Spears is back, but this time, the ‘90s pop icon is sashaying into the world of high fashion—particularly that of Balenciaga.

Spears has joined forces with creative director Demna Gvasalia to create a set of limited-edition clothing and accessories, called “Balenciaga Music | Britney Spears Series,” which is part of the designer’s last runway collection with the Spanish fashion house.

Balenciaga unveiled the surprise collaboration on June 3, ahead of the collection’s runway debut at the Haute Couture Week in Paris on July 9. It describes the nostalgic collection as one that “celebrates a global cultural icon who shaped the sound and style of pop music,” as written on its website.

The hot drop sizzles with 12 ready-to-wear pieces, along with accessories. At the center are the crop tops, oversized T-shirts, and flags Britney-fied with the star’s most iconic imagery shot by legendary photographers Rankin and Steven Klein.

The same photograph is stitched on the pair of black and gray hoodies with Spears’ signature at the front. The line also includes baseball caps with the singer’s name sprucing up the front panel, and another brimming with metal studs.

That’s not all. Spears and Demna crafted something for everyone—yes, even those who couldn’t afford the Lucky hitmaker’s $795 shirts. Balenciaga has released an exclusive playlist curated by Spears herself, which highlights music from her personal archive and those that have inspired her.

Setting the rhythm are two remixes of her most iconic songs featured in Balenciaga’s Summer 2025 runway: Gimme More and Oops… I Did It Again! These tracks were reworked by BFRND, the husband and creative partner of Demna. Also included in the list are Spears’ Me Against the Music featuring Madonna, Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing, as well as Janet Jackson’s That’s the Way Love Goes. It is available for streaming on music platforms Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, and Amazon Music.

Reflecting on her collaboration with Balenciaga, Spears said, “I have always loved fashion and was so honored and excited Balenciaga and Demna chose to collaborate with me on Demna’s last collection with the house.”

“I hope my fans love it as much as I do! These are some of my favorite images from such an amazing time in my career and life,” she continued. “And I’m so excited to share it with everyone.”

This isn’t the first time that Balenciaga is pushing the boundaries of fashion with celebrity collaborations. Last February, the fashion powerhouse released a collection, titled “Brand Ambassador Fanclub Series,” featuring Isabelle Huppert, Kim Kardashian, Michelle Yeoh, Nicole Kidman, and PP Krit Amnuavdechkorn. Inspired by vintage fan club merchandise, the capsule pays tribute to its ambassadors, with their figurative artwork printed on shirts and tank tops.

Meanwhile, Demna’s final collection with Balenciaga, titled “Exactitudes,” is like a greatest hits album, remixing iconic silhouettes from his past 35 collections with the house. It features the designer’s famous sculptural gowns, bulbous outerwear, aggressive streetwear, crowd-favorite sock shoes, and massive bags that helped transform the brand into a $2 billion powerhouse.

Reflecting on his last hurrah for the label, Demna said, “This collection embodies the multitude of design codes that have been part of my creative vision and research on fashion at Balenciaga for a decade. It combines pieces from 35 different collections with new pieces and garments from my personal wardrobe, representing the volumes, silhouettes, and attitudes that have defined my vision and my questioning of the contemporary wardrobe.”

“Moving on to the next chapter, this is my tribute to the creative research and work that me and my teams have done for the past 10 years” he continued. “It is also my love letter to the most loyal and fashion-forward audience that we have built around the house and connected with in this creative process.”

He signed off, “Thank you and love forever.”

Demna joined Balenciaga as creative director in early October 2015 and broke the news of his departure in March 2025. French multinational company Kering, which owns Balenciaga, later announced that Italian designer and Valentino’s former creative head, Pierpaolo Picciolo, will be taking over the helm on July 10.

Demna’s Britney Spears collection is now available for preorder on balenciaga.com, with orders shipping in July.
