Love, lawyers and loopholes: What celebrity prenups reveal

When A-list power couples like newly engaged Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce decide to tie the knot, there’s far more at stake if the house comes tumbling down.

When Taylor Swift posted on her Instagram account that she and two-year boyfriend Travis Kelce were officially engaged, they broke the internet. The diamond on the engagement ring, rumored to be worth upwards of $650,000, he put on her finger was so large it sparkled right out of our screens.

It’s been a season of wins for the pop superstar. Her Eras World Tour is one of the highest-grossing of all time, she’s set to release her 12th album “The Life Of A Showgirl,” and she regained ownership of her music. Put together, these placed her net worth at over $1.6 billion.

Travis Kelce has also had an equally stellar year playing as the tight end of the Kansas City Chiefs, which played in the last two Supers Bowl (winning in 2024 and losing to the Philadephia Eagles in 2025). He also has a hit podcast and a string of endorsements, placing him with a net worth upwards of $70 million. While Kelce’s fortune may seem but a fraction of TayTay, it’s still got a substantial number of zeroes. And when it comes to these kinds of numbers, it does beg the question—to prenup or  not to prenup?

For A-list couples with massive fortunes and numerous income streams, getting married becomes as much of a business arrangement as it is a romantic partnership. That’s a little bit of protection in case, God forbid, the proverbial cookie crumbles.

So The POST did a little bit of digging around the internet to see which high-profile folks put safeguards on their fortunes for, you know, just in case.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

One of the most controversial couples in Hollywood, all things about the marriage of Kim and Kanye have been played out in the public eye. It’s been written that in their prenup, she will receive $1 million for every year of marriage, and gets to keep all the income from the TV show, appearances, and clothing line. Kim also gets to keep all jewelry and gifts given to her by the rapper and music producer. There is also supposed to be an interesting clause that says Kris Jenner cannot make career decisions affecting the couple.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z

Nothing comes close to music royalty than Queen Bey and Jay-Z. Between the two of them, they have a combined net worth of $3.38 billion. Jay-Z is recognized as “hiphop’s first billionaire” with investments in various business ventures in liquor and clothing, aside from his music, while Beyonce’s just concluded Cowboy Carter Tour grossed over $400 million.

They did have a prenup drafted before their epic penthouse wedding in New York City in 2008. Reports say that provisions included $5 million for every child born, and $1 million for every year of marriage. There is also supposed to be a clause where Beyoncé could have received $10 million if they split up in less than two years.

Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom

As with all things Kardashian, there will always be drama. According to reports, their divorce was a complicated one, but they did have some interesting provisions in their prenup. Aside from the usual payout per year of marriage, she would also get a new car every year, courtside tickets to Lakers games for her family, and a monthly beauty care and shopping allowance.

Jeff Bezos and Mackenzie Scott, Lauren Sanchez

In 2025, Amazon is one of the world’s most valuable companies. Aside from its online marketplace, they have ventured into media, and space transport, to name a few. All this has made Bezos a very wealthy man, with an estimated net worth of $220 billion. But in 1993, when he married Scott, Amazon was yet to be created (it was founded in 1994), hence no prenup. That decision reared its ugly head in 2019, when the couple got divorced. Scott found herself laughing all the way to the bank with not only a $35 billion settlement, but also a 4% stake in Amazon, placing her net worth at $165 billion.

For his recent wedding to Lauren Sanchez, Bezos took from past lessons and signed a prenup agreement with his new bride. Sanchez also brings her own assets to the table, including property and businesses, so it’s a good move all around.

Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan

The Meta CEO and his wife first met when they were both students in Stanford. Back then, Facebook was just an idea, but has since grown into a social media giant, giving Zuckerberg a net worth of over $200 billion. While there is nothing publicly released about a prenup for the tech power couple, there is said to be a relationship agreement between the two. Among its clauses are a dedicated date night every week and 100 minutes of quality time, none of which is spent in the office or his apartment. They must be doing something right, as the couple has been married for over a decade and share three children. He even had a sculpture made in Chan’s likeness as a token of his love.

Ice-T and Coco Austin

Rapper-turned -TV -star Ice-T, who plays Sgt. Finn Tutuola in the long-running procedural Law & Order: SVU, and his wife Coco Austin agreed that in case of a divorce, she has to “return” her breast and butt implants. (Neither husband nor wife has confirmed this, but Hollywood seems to take this as gospel truth.)

Judging from all the different provisions — financial or otherwise—these prenuptial agreements just might make a case for happily ever after. If it doesn’t, then it becomes a lesson in  negotiating a little better on the next go around.
