New Lewis Hamilton and Dior collection celebrates the Formula One legend’s heritage

The capsule takes inspiration from Hamilton’s cultural background, his travels across Africa, and Afrofuturism.

Lewis Hamilton has been showing the world he’s more than just a Formula One legend.

The seven-time F1 champion has been going full throttle in other circuits beyond that which he has conquered countless of times. He made his way into Hollywood a few months ago, for instance, having been credited as a producer of the F1 movie starring Brad Pitt. Earlier this July, he marked another milestone, this time, in the fashion sphere, with his second collection as a designer in a new partnership with Dior.

The latest Dior and Lewis Hamilton Lifestyle Capsule follows up on the success of the seven-time F1 champion’s first collection with the French atelier in 2024, where winter sports like skiing and snowboarding took centerstage. Hamilton’s sophomore collaboration with Dior, however, is more personal, having been inspired by the racing superstar’s cultural heritage, his travels across Africa, and Afrofuturism.

In the collection’s notes, Hamilton shared that a trip to the continent last year exposed him to “so many incredible stories that inspired me to imagine the future of Black culture.” For him, Afrofuturism was the perfect lens through which to express his latest collection. “That’s what this collection embraces—an exploration of identity, versatility and expression,” he said. “The way we tell stories through art, science and philosophy is really special. Seeing these ideas brought to life through color and movement inspired me.”

The 40-year-old was referring to his trip to Morocco, Senegal, Benin, Mozambique, and Madagascar, which, in an Instagram post last year, he described as being “all about culture and learning about the histories in each place.”

The British racing driver explained the capsule is the intersection of sportswear and fashion and how those two worlds coexist. “For me, fashion has always been about self-expression and embracing all the different parts of yourself,” he said. “Being authentic to your style and communicating yourself through clothing is such a powerful feeling.”

The first Dior and Lewis Hamilton Lifestyle Capsule was a glimpse into what a partnership between Hamilton and then creative director of Dior Homme Kim Jones was going to be. This latest edition, meanwhile, tapped into their shared connection to the African continent.

Prior to Jones’ departure from Dior Men earlier this year, the London-born designer spoke about bonding with Hamilton over their shared love for Africa, a report on the Motorsport website stated. “Some of the fabrics were made in Burkina Faso. We’re working with someone who’s helping us source sustainable fabrics throughout the continent and really looking at what we can do to help get the next generation of people educated to be able to come work in a studio like this,” Jones was reported to have said.

With Africa and African heritage and stories as his compass, Hamilton was able to create a lifestyle capsule that boasts over twenty different looks that are show-stopping as they are functional. The collection notably blends workwear and performance-wear that come in vibrant colorways. There are bomber jackets, a cashmere jersey knit vest, track pants, and backpacks. The bucket hats are especially memorable! Each item blends Hamilton’s unique and thoughtful style with the impeccable tailoring that the Dior is known for.

In a recent Instagram post, Hamilton announced the launch of the capsule with a heartfelt message to his team at Dior. “A heartfelt thank you to the incredible team I had the pleasure of working with — your passion, creativity, and dedication made this journey unforgettable,” he wrote.

“To everyone at the house of Dior, thank you for your patience, enthusiasm, and commitment throughout the process,” he continued. “I truly cherish the time we spent designing these pieces together. I’ve learned so much from each of you and will always be grateful. It’s always a privilege to be in a room full of such inspiring artists and thinkers.”

The Dior and Lewis Hamilton Lifestyle Capsule has been receiving much love so far, the most notable being from Jimin of BTS, who has already been spotted wearing items from the capsule.
