Reinhart’s The Love Hypothesis press wardrobe revisits outfits worn by Kate Hudson, Jennifer Garner, Brittany Murphy, and more.
Nostalgia looks good on Lili Reinhart. Best known as Betty Cooper in Riverdale, the actress has been promoting her new film, The Love Hypothesis, in looks inspired by the rom-com leads of the ’90s and 2000s. As a rom-com girl who grew up watching these movies, I’m enjoying every reference.
In the adaptation of Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling novel, Reinhart plays Olive, a PhD candidate who enters a fake relationship with professor Adam Carlsen, played by Tom Bateman. The film arrived globally on Prime Video on September 23.
For the press tour, Reinhart and stylist Ib Abdel Nasser mixed vintage finds with custom recreations, revisiting outfits worn by Kate Hudson, Jennifer Garner, Brittany Murphy, and other familiar faces from our movie nights.
Reinhart told Vogue that it started with a Pinterest board she named “Rom-Com Baddie.” What began as a collection of ’90s and early-2000s style references gradually became a list of specific characters and outfits they wanted to revisit.

Kate Hudson’s yellow dress in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
Reinhart’s Brazil press stop gave us an easy reference to spot: a butter-yellow gown inspired by Kate Hudson’s Andie Anderson.
She wore a vintage Caché version of the dress. Hudson’s original came from Carolina Herrera, who worked with costume designer Karen Patch on the 2003 film.
Jennifer Garner’s polka-dot coat in 13 Going on 30
Reinhart also borrowed from Jenna Rink’s wardrobe, wearing an archival Nanette Lepore polka-dot coat for a September 17 outing in New York.
The coat is the same spring 2003 style Jennifer Garner wears in the film. Lepore’s daughter, Violet Savage, helped arrange the loan, and Reinhart paired it with a lace-trimmed Fleur du Mal slip and vintage Jimmy Choo heels.
Sandra Bullock’s lavender mini in Miss Congeniality
Gracie Hart’s makeover dress made the list, too. Reinhart wore a custom lilac Hervé Léger mini designed by Michelle Ochs, recalling Sandra Bullock’s look in Miss Congeniality.
The bandage construction and halter neckline kept the reference clear. Matching Bottega Veneta sandals and tinted Marc Jacobs sunglasses completed Reinhart’s outfit. This was a newly made version of the dress, rather than the original film costume. Still, if you remember the scene, the connection is hard to miss.
Brittany Murphy’s dress in Uptown Girls
Brittany Murphy’s Molly Gunn got more than one tribute, starting with the shimmering floral Blumarine spring 2002 design she wears in Uptown Girls. Reinhart shared that she had loved the dress since childhood.
The second look took more searching. Nasser found the Rebecca Taylor dress from the film’s final scene on Depop, but in black. The label used its pattern to recreate the dress in blush pink, sourcing similar lace and custom-dyeing the fabric for Reinhart’s appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show.
Drew Barrymore’s embellished gown in Ever After
For the Germany stop, Reinhart wore a custom Rodarte gown inspired by Drew Barrymore’s Ever After costume. An empire waist, sheer sleeves, and crystal embellishments brought the film’s fairy-tale feel to her look.
The film was a childhood favorite. Reinhart told Vogue she grew up watching it repeatedly on VHS and chose the Germany stop for its mountain backdrop. That connection made her appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show even sweeter. Barrymore surprised her with a VHS copy of Ever After as a belated birthday gift, adding their names. “This is not a silly little gift. I’m gonna cry,” Reinhart said.
Keira Knightley’s green dress in Atonement
Her references went beyond romantic comedy. For a London shoot, Reinhart wore Tory Burch’s interpretation of Keira Knightley’s green dress from Atonement. Burch originally created the piece for Vogue World 2025 and lent it to the team.
Elizabeth Harnois’ pink velvet mini in My Date with the President’s Daughter
For the Los Angeles screening, Reinhart revisited another ’90s favorite. The bubblegum-pink color, white piping, and thin straps recalled the dress from the1998 film.
Reinhart told Extra that Hallie’s pink dress was the first outfit that came to mind when she thought about memorable movie looks from her childhood. Miu Miu then made her version. The original film dress, meanwhile, came from California Proline, sourced by costume designer Delphine White.
These looks are still iconic, and seeing Reinhart wear them makes us want to revisit that whole era of rom-coms. A movie marathon might be in order.
