Celebs are hooked on these Netflix shows—here’s how to stream with ease

Summer is well underway, and what better time to “Netflix and chill” than now? It’s one of the best—if not the best—ways to enjoy the season, given the unforgiving hot weather. It’s also the season for relaxation, providing you with more ways and time for streaming.

And when it comes to choosing which shows to binge, you’ll never go wrong with today’s hottest hits. These cult favorite shows, whether watched for the first time or as a rerun, offer something new and, at the same time, reassuringly familiar every time. Take it from actor Dominic Roque, beauty queen Rabiya Mateo, and volleyball star Jessey De Leon.

As celebrities who are each running a full schedule every day, all three find their peace therapy in watching today’s hottest series. According to these stars, these shows not only provide them with entertainment, but also allow them to connect deeper with themselves and offer means to unwind and relax. They shared their recommendations in a quick chat with The POST during the launch of the PLDT Home Fiber Netflix Plan on April 30 at The Mansion Sports Bar & Lounge in Makati.

For Dominic, hit K-drama When Life Gives You Tangerines is a must-watch for its beautiful storytelling, compelling characters, and emotional impact. It follows Ae-sun, her husband Gwan-sik, and their relationship that has surpassed South Korea’s political shifts, economic changes, and their personal struggles, including the challenges of building and strengthening a family.

At the event, Dominic fondly recalled watching it with his girlfriend and fellow celebrity Sue Ramirez. He said, “The show had us crying right from the first episode, which focused on Ae-sun and her mom Gwang-rye. I related to how much Ae-sun loves her mother as I, too, am a mama’s boy.”

“It made me remember our struggles when I was young, when my mom and I ran a carinderia. Both of us bought everything we needed at the market and cooked it right after. We did all of that together. So I would say that When Life Gives You Tangerines is the type of show that really hits home. It’ll show you how great a child’s love for their mom can be,” Dominic told The POST.

For fans of documentaries and living life in the fast lane, Dominic recommends another hit show: Formula 1: Drive to Survive. The docu-series gives a behind-the-scenes look at the races of the Formula One World Championship and the 20 drivers who race in them. It premiered in 2019 and has released one season per year since then. Its latest season was aired in March 2025.

Dominic said the series has since been on top of his list as it “documents everything” about the motorsport. “I wasn’t a fan of Formula 1, but when I started watching the series, I really enjoyed every episode and it made me a fan of the sport. My respect for the drivers and the teams supporting them intensified,” he remarked.

Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo, meanwhile, finds the popular and critically acclaimed Stranger Things fascinating. In case you’re living under a rock, the series is set in the 1980s. It follows a group of friends uncovering supernatural mysteries in the fictional town of Hawkins and its alternate dimension called the Upside Down.

She told The POST, “My go-to binge series of all time is Stranger Things. It’s simply because the series brings us back to the 1980s—an era many of us weren’t able to experience. At the same time, it’s sci-fi and the way they produced the show—from CGI to prosthetics—is unlike any other. It’s definitely a different experience compared to modern-time shows.”

Bridgerton is another Netflix hit on many must-watch lists worldwide, including that of PLDT Hitters middle blocker Jessey De Leon. Bridgerton is a regency romance series set in an alternative history London. It follows the Bridgerton siblings as they navigate the competitive social scene and search for love.

Jessey told The POST that she fell in love with the series not only for its dreamy depiction of the regency era, but more so because of its swoon-worthy romance. “I’m really a hopeless romantic kind of person so just watching Bridgerton really makes me feel good,” she began. “I love watching the characters fall in love, how they fall in love, and how they surpass the challenges because of love. So I really enjoy watching it because it’s just light and I just need something that will make me feel good after a very busy day.”
