Four local resorts win at the recent World Travel Market: Crimson Boracay and Cebu by Chroma Hospitality; and Amorita and The Funny Lion by the One-of Collection.
The global travel luxury market is rising steadily. According to Grand View Research, the global luxury hotel market was valued $91.46 billion in 2022, and is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 5.4 percent until 2030.
Factors include rising disposable incomes around the world, increased demand for high-end experiences, including the post-pandemic rebound as individuals resumed their global travels.
The Philippines is no exception to this travel trend. People are increasingly treating themselves to luxury experiences and no other part of travel takes up more in this budget than accommodations. Domestic tourism expenditure has been steadily growing—by 72.3 percent from 2022 to 2023, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in a report released in June this year. Last year, in fact, tourism contributed an estimated 8.6 percent to the country’s GDP.
While it remains to be seen if 2024 will equal, surpass or fall behind last year’s tourism numbers, luxury resorts in the country’s key destinations have been enjoying high occupancy during peak season and long weekends.
Four luxury resorts recently won the Condé Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence—given to luxury properties for their superior facilities, exceptional service and overall guest experience—during this year’s WTM in London.
“We are delighted to celebrate new and returning establishments across the globe. The 2025 Condé Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence continue to acknowledge, reward and honor luxury hospitality from our carefully chosen collection of recommended properties” Charlotte Evans, Group Publishing Director at Condé Nast Johansens said.
Crimson Boracay and Mactan
Chroma Hospitality, the hospitality management arm of Filinvest, reinforces its leadership in the Philippine luxury sector with two Awards for Excellence, highlighting the outstanding service and accommodations offered by its Crimson brand at Crimson Resort & Spa Boracay and Crimson Resort & Spa Mactan.
Crimson Boracay was named the property with the “Best Breakfast” while Crimson Cebu was recognized for “Best Value Spa.” This year’s awards gala dinner was held at Kimpton Fitzroy London where AVP for Sales Cecille Kimpo represented both properties and received the awards.
This is the third consecutive year for Crimson Boracay to win a Conde Nast Award. Located at Station Zero, the resort is a favorite of the well-heeled in Manila and international travelers for its private beach; villas, suites and deluxe rooms with fantastic sea views; and its signature beachside Azure restaurant.
Crimson Mactan, a sprawling six-hectare beach resort and spa, also earned a recommendation this year from the Michelin Guide Hotel. The resort boasts restaurants by award-winning chefs such as AKA by Naoki Eguchi and Enye by Chele Gonzalez.
Amorita and The Funny Lion
One-Of Collection, the hospitality group founded by young couple Nicky Cauton and Ria Hernandez-Cauton, specializes in managing distinctive hotel and resort properties. The group has made a name for itself in providing unforgettable travel experiences and personalized service, as well as adding value to the local communities where it operates.
Two of One-Of Collection’s resorts, Amorita Resort Bohol and The Funny Lion El Nido, each collected a Condé Nast Johansens Award for Excellence.
This is Amorita’s 6th Condé Nast Johansens Award for Excellence, winning in the Best for Weddings, Parties & Celebrations category for 2024. This latest honor adds to Amorita’s history of accolades which include past wins for Best Service, Best for Families, and Best Dining Experience.
Amorita General Manager Leeds Trompeta expressed his gratitude, saying, “Winning our 6th Condé Nast Johansens Award is a testament to the dedication and passion of our entire team. It is an honor to be celebrated among the best in the industry and to share this recognition with our guests who inspire us to elevate our service constantly.”
Located on the southern edge of Alona Beach in Bohol’s Panglao Island — on top of a limestone cliff—Amorita Resort is the flagship property of One-Of Collection.
The Funny Lion El Nido was awarded the Best Value Experience. This is the first recognition for the resort, which opened in 2022, in the Condé Nast Johansens Awards. Resort Manager Nilo Quizon said, “We are truly honored to be recognized with this award. Since our opening, we have been dedicated to providing outstanding service and value, ensuring that every guest experiences the unique charm of El Nido, Palawan.”
