What to expect in the ultimate marine adventure at Singapore Oceanarium

One of the world’s largest aquariums is taking explorers on an immersive journey through the sea and beyond starting July 24.

There’s always something new to explore in vibrant Singapore. This month, nature lovers and curious travelers are in for the ultimate marine adventure, as the Lion City is finally opening Singapore Oceanarium to the public on July 24.

Touted as one of the largest aquariums in the world, the new Singapore Oceanarium is an expansion of the former SEA Aquarium, which closed in April 2025 for major renovation and rebranding. The refreshed tourist attraction is made bigger and better, spanning triple the SEA’s size. It nurtures over 100,000 underwater creatures in 49 different habitats that recreate their natural homes.

Located at Resorts World Sentosa, Singapore Oceanarium takes visitors on an immersive journey through 22 themed zones that “illuminate the ocean’s past, present, and beyond.” Each zone is designed to build connections with the marine world and “inspire change” through immersive storytelling and eye-opening exhibitions, according to Resorts World Sentosa

At the expansive aquarium, visitors will get to dive deep into the marine ecosystem and experience being one with sharks, seahorses, moray eals, and many more. Among the highlights is the zone called “Singapore Coast,” which gives an in-depth view of mangrove-inspired landscape and interactive habitats. Meanwhile, journey back in time at the Ancient Waters zone, which recreates the story of evolution with life-sized prehistoric animals and living fossils. Admire thousands of marine creatures—and don’t forget to capture photos for the ‘Gram—behind a 3-meter-wide viewing panel at the Open Ocean zone.

Singapore Oceanarium features 22 themed zones in a space three times bigger than the SEA Aquarium.

The journey continues outside the Oceanarium, where you’ll find the Research and Learning Centre. It houses learning labs and collaborative spaces that support advanced research on marine life and provide additional learning for visitors. The center is backed by leading academic institutions, including the National University of Singapore and the Earth Observatory of Singapore, which support Singapore Oceanarium’s commitment to innovation and marine conservation.

Sustainability is a core feature of this state-of-the-art facility, which boasts a Green Mark Platinum Zero Energy certification for being entirely powered by solar energy, minimizing its environmental impact.

The Research and Learning Centre takes visitors on a behind-the-scenes exploration of Singapore Oceanarium’s efforts on marine conservation.

As part of its grand launch this month, Singapore Oceanarium will be holding a series of exhibitions and activities led by distinguished Singapore talents. Among the highlights is the Insider Experience, which offers an in-depth journey through the oceanarium’s operations. There’s also the Fossilist Workshop, which offers an exploration of fossil formation and its significance through fascinating activities, including a hands-on fossil excavation. All these and more make for an eye-opening experience where visitors discover the crucial role that they play in marine conservation.

“At Singapore Oceanarium, we believe that inspiration stems from insight. Beyond our immersive habitats, guests can now uncover the unseen through behind-the-scenes programs that bring our conservation efforts to life,” Singapore Oceanarium vice president Lam Xue Ying said in a press release. “From walking alongside our aquarists and witnessing marine animal care in action, to engaging with marine scientists through hands-on workshops, every experience offers a deeper understanding of our oceans and the role we can play in protecting them.”
