Kenzo’s Chinese New Year collection is giving us retro feels

Kenzo welcomes the Year of the Dragon with a capsule collection featuring vibrant, exclusive prints.

The Chinese zodiac celebrates the dragon in 2024, and Kenzo is paying tribute to this mythical creature, which has symbolized auspiciousness and imperial power since ancient times and is a token of good luck, leadership, and success.

The collection designed for the occasion is an homage to Chinese culture, as well as to the timeless graphic motifs seen throughout Kenzo’s creative history.

Kenzo Artistic Director Nigo has elaborated a complete line of ready-to-wear pieces for men and women, including gender-neutral styles, that are embellished with bold, graphic representations of the dragon in a retro vibe. The symbolic creature of the 2024 Chinese zodiac, as well as the number “8,” which is considered the luckiest number in Chinese culture, are playfully applied to denim, woven, knit, and jersey garments, as well as to accessories.

The 2024 Lunar Year wardrobe

For men, the Year of the Dragon collection is composed of a black water-repellent flight bomber jacket that features a tiger graphic on the chest, as well as a selvedge denim trucker jacket. They both display an oversized dragon version on the back with “Kenzo Paris” spelled out.

Denim jeans show the dragon pocket on the back. A special sweater and cardigan with a multicolor dragon graphic on the chest are also available in black. The jersey line offers a tracksuit with side stripes, sweatshirts, jogging pants, hoodies, and T-shirts, available in black, white, and iconic Chinese red. They are all bearing the classic dragon and/or “8 dragon” graphics, or a tiger.

For women, a bomber jacket is available in red with the “8” dragon graphic on the back and a tiger on the chest, a line of washed denim trucker jacket, skirt and cropped-fit jeans features a softer colorway of the dragon, and “Kenzo Paris” lettering.

A version of the side-striped tracksuit has also been crafted for women—with graphics on the front and back—and the jersey offers T-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, cardigans, polo dresses, and jogger pants in a combination of black, pink, and traditional red.

The gender-neutral part of the collection combines the Ivy League theme dear to Kenzo with Year of the Dragon graphics. A “souvenir” jacket, as well as a jumper and cardigan (with contrasting sleeves) show ribbed cuffs and a selection of vibrant graphics designed in red, white, and golden yellow.

Jersey cardigans, oversized T-shirts, and sweatshirts in black, white, and red complete the gender-neutral line. Cool, playful accessories complete the collection with a small pouch, a card holder, a baseball cap, and a keyring, all stamped or embroidered with the Lunar Year dragon graphics.
