Your ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ moment? HBO launches global casting call for new series

The search is on for two new faces to join the world of Singapore’s wealthy elite. Aspiring actors have until November 30 to audition.

Fancy rubbing shoulders with Singapore’s fictional billionaires? Your ticket into their extravagant world might be just an audition away.

HBO has launched a global casting call for its upcoming Crazy Rich Asians television series, inviting aspiring actors worldwide to audition for two new characters. The search, conducted in partnership with Firefly Casting, is open until November 30, 2026.

The announcement was shared by Kevin Kwan, author of the bestselling novels that inspired the 2018 film, and Firefly Casting on Instagram. Applicants do not need previous professional acting experience, and auditions are free.

Two roles are up for grabs

The production is searching for actors to portray Posy and William, two characters who promise to bring fresh drama to the franchise’s extravagant universe.

Posy is an East Asian woman in her 30s, a glamorous and ambitious former socialite whose marriage to a powerful tycoon has collapsed. Flamboyant, calculating, and determined to reclaim her status, she is accustomed to getting what she wants. Applicants must be fluent in English and familiar with Mandarin.

William, meanwhile, is a Chinese man in his 20s and the privileged son of a Shanghai real estate billionaire. Beneath his mischievous, thrill-seeking personality lies a surprisingly warm and sincere side. The role requires fluency in English and conversational Mandarin.

Interested actors can access the audition instructions through the official casting submission link. Self-taped auditions must be submitted by November 30, with no application or audition fees.

A rich reunion eight years in the making

The series will continue the story established in the 2018 box-office hit, reuniting several members of its original cast. Constance Wu and Henry Golding will reprise their roles as Rachel Chu and Nick Young, alongside Ronny Chieng. Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh will return in a recurring role.

Original screenwriter Adele Lim will serve as showrunner and executive producer, with Kwan and director Jon M. Chu also attached as executive producers.

In an official announcement released by HBO on October 8, Lim confirmed that the sequel will unfold across eight episodes, allowing the creative team to explore the characters and their complicated relationships in greater depth.

The series is scheduled to begin production in 2027, although HBO has yet to announce a premiere date. For aspiring actors hoping to enter the world of lavish weddings, luxury mansions, and family fortunes, the casting call offers a rare opportunity to join one of Hollywood’s most recognizable Asian-led franchises.
