Hey Spider-Man fans, Spider Noir is getting his own live-action series. Here’s what to know

Nicolas Cage is out to portray the spider-powered detective in this series that zaps and shoots retro vibes.

Spider-Man fans should better prepare to be caught in a web of Spidey-inspired thrills starting next year. And we’re not just talking about Spider-Man 4, which is swinging into theaters in July 2026, or Beyond the Spider-Verse that’s due out in June 2027. Most recently, Sony Pictures and Amazon MGM Studios have announced that their much-anticipated Spider Noir series is also coming your way in 2026.

Amazon broke the news in the show’s first teaser trailer, which it unveiled at its annual presentation in New York City earlier this month. The over-a-minute clip features Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage as the titular hero. He is seen clinging to walls, swinging through the city, and beating the bad guys in Spider Noir’s all-black detective suit with matching black Spider-Man mask.

For the uninitiated, Spider Noir is an alternate version of Spider-Man, who exists in 1930s New York City. Like the characters portrayed by Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield, Spider Noir’s alter ego is also Peter Parker and possesses the same superpowers as a magical spider. The difference is that Spider Noir is an “aging and down-on-his-luck private investigator who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero,” according to Amazon.

Cage’s casting as the Noir makes total sense, as the 61-year-old actor voiced the character in the animated films Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse. This time, though, Cage signed up for a live-action series, so we actually get to see him kicking butts and wielding firearms in scenes that zaps and shoots retro vibes.

You’d see that from the teaser above, but according to cast member Luke Haas, the actual series may be released not only in dark noir but also in full color. You’ll just have to choose how to enjoy the 1933-themed show best.

I think it may come out in both black and white and color, but when we filmed it, the monitors were all black and white, so you got this feeling, and it looked very, very authentic. To the point that I would actually go and look at the monitor and think I was looking at some old footage. They did a beautiful job with the filters and all that stuff, making it look like genuine old 1930s, black-and-white film,” Hass said in an interview with Coming Soon last March.

Similar to previous Spider-Man flicks, Spider Noir will only draw inspiration from the comic book Spider-Man: Noir first released in 2009, rather than directly adapting its arc. What is sure, though, is that it will maintain the setting of vintage New York and Noir’s mysterious and gritty persona that fans have come to love. Eagle-eyed fans have seen the uncanny resemblance in leaked photos showing Cage wearing a 1930s-era suit and stunt performers dressed in similar black mask, hat, and coat.

Amazon has yet to announce the exact date Spider Noir will be released, but it is set to land on MGM+ first before swinging to Prime Video the following day. Joining Cage and Haas in the eight-episode series are fellow stars Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez and many others. Harry Bradbeer is directing the first two installments, while Phil Lord and Christopher Miller—the duo behind the Spider-Verse franchise—are executive producers of the upcoming series.
