For fall-winter 2023, Roger Vivier recently unveiled its Viv’ Choc Pièce Unique collection—dreamy one-of-a-kind handbags designed by Creative Director Gherardo Felloni—that explores the absolute heights of aspirational French savoir-faire.
Each unique creation features delicate embroidery on precious textiles. In a camaieu of powdery pastel shades from ivory and rose pink velvets to dark water snake and ice grey alligator, each handcrafted piece is a celebration of Parisian glamour.
From the soaring volumes of the Eiffel Tower to the gilded halls of Versailles and the energy of Paris by night, Gherardo Felloni explores the maison’s embroidery prowess with each piece, crafting spectacular adornment that goes beyond surface embellishment to become exceptional structures.
The draped curves of the Viv’ Choc, with its romantic folds and curves, is a dramatic and sensual canvas for crystals, sequins, feathers and threadwork. In standard and miniature scales, each piece is hand-mounted and embroidered, with up to 13,000 beads and crystals applied by hand. Among them, intricate techniques bring flourishing patterns and textures to the fore, from latticework bugle beading and crystal tulle mesh, to clusters of natural pearls and rhinestones.
Acknowledging opulent codes from the Roger Vivier archives, touches of cerulean plumage pay homage to an iridescent feathered Chocheel from 1959, while turquoise briolettes adorn satin in a nod to a Virguleshoes from 1963.
Ostrich feathers evoke the bewitching costumes of the Paris Opéra Ballet, mosaics of crystal and threadwork create radial motifs on tweed and nappa leather, and a geometric map of Parisian streets from above is recreated in sparkling crystal and mohair embroidery on velvet. The effect is extraordinary, as Gherardo Felloni conjures up Maison Vivier’s kaleidoscope of haute craftsmanship with each precious creation a new ode to the Ville Lumière.
