Marvel’s biggest heroes collide in the first full trailer, while Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom makes a seriously intimidating entrance.
Marvel just assembled a cast so crowded that “Avengers, assemble” barely covers it.
The first full Avengers: Doomsday trailer brings the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Wakandans, and New Avengers into one enormous multiverse story. Chris Hemsworth’s Thor leads the warning: something dangerous is coming, and even Marvel’s strongest heroes may not be able to stop it.
That danger is Doctor Doom, played by former Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. The trailer finally shows the masked villain in action, including one moment that immediately establishes how powerful he is. Thor throws Stormbreaker at Doom, who stops the weapon with just two fingers.
Yes, the same ax that nearly killed Thanos.
The Marvel crossover fans have been waiting for
The trailer pulls characters from three different universes and places them on what Marvel describes as a “deadly collision course.”
Returning Avengers include Thor, Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, and Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers. They share the screen with Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm, Letitia Wright’s Shuri, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes.

The X-Men also return in force. Patrick Stewart appears as Professor X, Ian McKellen is back as Magneto, and James Marsden once again suits up as Cyclops. Rebecca Romijn returns as Mystique, while Channing Tatum reprises his role as Gambit following his long-awaited appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine.
One sequence even places Reed Richards, Yelena, Sam Wilson, and the Fantastic Four’s robot assistant H.E.R.B.I.E. inside the X-Mansion. Elsewhere, Gambit faces Shang-Chi, and the Fantastic Four meet Wakanda’s warriors.
It is less a team-up than a superhero traffic jam, but Marvel appears to be making the chaos part of the story.
Chris Evans is back, and Steve Rogers has questions to answer
One of the trailer’s biggest moments belongs to Chris Evans, who returns as Steve Rogers after seemingly completing the character’s story in Avengers: Endgame.
This Steve has long hair, a beard, and Mjolnir in his hand. The look recalls his memorable entrance in Avengers: Infinity War, while the hammer brings back his crowd-pleasing battle against Thanos in Endgame.
Marvel does not explain how Steve returned, where he has been, or why he has Mjolnir again. The mystery has already inspired theories that he may come from another universe or that viewers are looking at a different version of Captain America altogether.
Loki may have something to do with it. Tom Hiddleston appears with a TVA badge, linking the film to the events of Loki and the organization responsible for monitoring different timelines. A few eagle-eyed viewers also noticed that the room around Loki resembles Steve and Peggy Carter’s home. It could be an important clue. It could also be Marvel giving everyone material to debate until December.
Robert Downey Jr. returns, but not as Tony Stark
Downey’s comeback remains the film’s biggest casting surprise. After playing Tony Stark for more than a decade, he now takes on Victor von Doom, one of Marvel Comics’ most famous villains. The trailer avoids explaining whether Doom’s resemblance to Tony will matter to the story. Instead, it presents him as a powerful new threat with a connection to Latveria, the fictional European country he rules in the comics.
But just so you know, Doom is not simply an evil Iron Man. He combines scientific genius, political power, advanced armor, and sorcery, giving him several ways to cause problems for heroes across multiple realities.
His arrival also sets up Avengers: Secret Wars, the planned follow-up coming in 2027. Doctor Doom plays a major role in the Secret Wars comics, where collapsing universes force Marvel’s heroes and villains into a battle over what remains of reality.
The trailer is already breaking Disney records
Audiences did not need much convincing to press play.
The Avengers: Doomsday trailer generated 503 million views during its first 24 hours, according to an exclusive report by Variety. It now ranks as the second-biggest movie trailer launch in history, behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which recorded 719 million views.
It is also Disney’s most-watched trailer debut, surpassing the Deadpool & Wolverine Super Bowl teaser and its reported 365 million views.
The early ticket numbers look just as large. Variety reports that select premium-format screenings earned $16.5 million during the first day of availability. Several opening-night screenings have reportedly sold out months before the movie arrives.
That does not guarantee another Endgame-sized box-office run, but it shows that audiences remain interested when Marvel treats a movie like a genuine event.
When does ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ open?
Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters on December 18. Anthony and Joe Russo, who directed Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, return to direct.
Marvel has also opened ticket sales for Infinity Vision-certified theaters. The new premium presentation promises larger screens, brighter images, and upgraded sound.
The studio still has plenty of secrets under that metal mask. For now, all we know is that every Marvel team has a part to play, Steve Rogers is not done yet, and Doctor Doom has no trouble catching Stormbreaker.
