Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River to dazzle with a month of lights, fireworks, and festivities

Thailand’s spectacular riverside celebration returns in November, bringing illuminated landmarks, cultural performances, and unforgettable evenings to the capital.

Bangkok is preparing to illuminate its iconic Chao Phraya River as Vijit Chao Phraya 2026 returns from November 13 to December 13, transforming the city’s historic waterfront into a spectacular showcase of light, art, and culture.

Organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the 31-day celebration promises colorful projections, dazzling drone formations, fireworks, and cultural performances across 13 riverside locations. This year’s theme, Light of Imagination, brings together contemporary technology and Thailand’s rich cultural heritage.

The festival, now in its fifth edition, has become a fixture of Bangkok’s year-end tourism calendar. Earlier celebrations helped establish the Chao Phraya as a cultural corridor, spotlighting historic architecture and riverside communities through immersive installations. According to TAT’s 2025 report, last year’s event attracted over 1.7 million visits while supporting restaurants, hotels, cruise operators, and local businesses.

Visitors can expect illuminated attractions stretching between Rama III Bridge and Rama VIII Bridge, including the magnificent Wat Arun, historic Wichai Prasit Fort, Memorial Bridge, Phra Pok Klao Bridge, and Krung Thep Bridge. These landmarks will serve as backdrops for multimedia presentations celebrating Bangkok’s architecture, traditions, and contemporary creativity.

The best way to experience the festivities is to explore both sides of the river. Public piers, waterfront parks, and riverside walkways provide accessible viewing opportunities, while passenger boats and sightseeing cruises offer panoramic perspectives of the illuminated skyline.

Food enthusiasts can pair an evening of sightseeing with a riverside dining experience. ICONSIAM offers restaurants and dining options overlooking the Chao Phraya, while Tha Maharaj provides a convenient stop for refreshments and waterfront dining near Bangkok’s historic district. Visitors can also explore the restaurants around River City Bangkok, another familiar destination along the river.

As for showtimes, the festival’s 2026 program has yet to release a complete location-by-location timetable. The 2025 edition operated nightly from 6 PM to 10 PM, with free public performances and installations. Visitors should confirm this year’s exact presentation times, particularly for fireworks, drones, and special cultural performances, before making arrangements.

Beyond the visual spectacle, Vijit Chao Phraya reflects Thailand’s commitment to celebrating cultural identity through creative tourism. By bringing visitors to historic neighborhoods and supporting riverside businesses, the festival contributes to Bangkok’s growing nighttime economy while offering travelers another compelling reason to discover the Thai capital after sunset.
