The New York-based label debuts a fresh collection in vivid colors, reimagining its signature downtown aesthetic.
New York Fashion Week hasn’t officially started yet (it opens tomorrow, September 6), but Proenza Schouler is already making waves. Designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez kicked off the season with a spring-summer 2025 collection that brings a fresh twist to their signature downtown cool aesthetic.
The show was set in a historic Tribeca building, featuring red brick walls inside and cobblestone streets outside, which provided a striking contrast to the modern looks on the runway. The location contributed to the overall ambiance—classic New York with a contemporary edge. The front row was just as captivating as the runway with stars like Ella Emhoff and Emily Ratajkowski in attendance catching a glimpse of the latest designs.
Staying true to their New York roots, McCollough and Hernandez showcased their deep understanding of what the city’s fashion enthusiasts crave. The show saw a fresh debut with Devon Lee Carlson, known for her carefree California style, adding a playful new energy to the proceedings.
This season, Proenza Schouler moved away from the “quiet luxury” look that has characterized some of their recent collections. Instead, the designers embraced bold patterns, vivid colors, and rich textures.
Key motifs included stripes and large color-blocked panels, drawing inspiration from American abstract artist Barnett Newman, renowned for his bold, linear designs. The result is a collection that feels both modern and timeless, blending classic nautical themes with a fresh, contemporary edge.
The collection was all about contrasts—mixing soft, flowy materials with edgy details like grommets and frayed fringe. It was playful, slightly experimental, yet entirely wearable.
