Prada’s F/W 2025 collection explores a different color of femininity

These weren’t just pretty details, they were deliberate choices meant to disrupt the look.

Prada’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection at Milan Fashion Week was another step away from traditional femininity. Instead of polished, body-hugging pieces, they delivered something looser, rougher, and full of contradictions.

The show opened with a series of black, slouchy, oversized and stripped dresses. Some looked unfinished, with raw seams and shifting waistlines that let the fabric move freely. Prada took a classic symbol of femininity and reshaped it into something unexpected.

Sweaters were big and cozy, sometimes worn over trousers, while other knit tops had dangling gems, like misplaced brooches. The usual idea of decoration was flipped—these weren’t just pretty details, they were deliberate choices meant to disrupt the look.

Coats and jackets were another highlight. Some were sharp and structured, with exaggerated lapels and fur collars, while others were thrown over pajama-like skirts. Shapes kept changing. A floral dress, tied with a bow, was paired with a wrinkled windbreaker. Skirts with oversized hips hinted at vintage fashion but felt entirely modern.

Handbags were stiff and structured, almost like armor, while shoes ranged from worn-in sneakers to delicate heels with bows. The clash between practical and polished was intentional.

Raf Simons described the collection as an act of resistance, saying, “You cannot be liberated if you don’t take a risk.” And that’s exactly what this collection did. Instead of giving one version of femininity, it showed multiple, layered, and sometimes messy interpretations. Dresses that could have looked delicate were oversized. Tailored suits that could have been severe were softened with folds and texture. The colors followed this theme, balancing muted grays and deep burgundies with pops of lime green.

The show’s setting reflected the same ideas. Held at the Fondazione Prada, the space was stripped down with metal scaffolding and patterned carpets.
