Whether it’s a mild cleanser, a hydrating toner, or a broad-spectrum sunscreen, finding the right product is important if you want to ensure that your skin is happy in the sweltering season.
Summer is the most playful season of the year, but it can also be the most brutal on our skin. One minute, you’re feeling fabulous with your radiant sun-kissed glow, and the next, you’re fretting over skin problems.
The hot season can be really tough on our skin, showing its wrath through sunburn and dry skin caused by excessive UV exposure, as well as heat rash when sweat gets trapped under the skin. Then there’s the acne breakouts. They creep up on you when increased oil and sweat clog your pores, then ruin what could have been the perfect selfie at the beach.
The key? A skincare routine that protects, soothes, and hydrates. Every step should focus on keeping your skin hydrated inside and out, protecting it from the harsh sun, and repairing damaged skin barrier without clogging your pores or causing flare-ups.
It all starts with knowing the essentials. Whether it’s a mild cleanser, a hydrating toner, or a broad-spectrum sunscreen, finding the right product is important if you want to ensure that your skin is happy from sunrise to sunset. So in this guide, The POST is breaking down the must-have skincare products to help you have healthy, glowing skin, and enjoy every beach trip, mountain hiking, or a brunch out with friends.

1. Mild cleanser
When choosing a cleanser, make sure that it can remove impurities without stripping your skin’s moisture. It should be gentle and contain soothing ingredients like aloe vera or chamomile that reduce the skin’s redness overnight. Steer clear of potential irritants like alcohol or harsh fragrances, too.

You can bet on Nivea’s Acne Clear MicellAIR Cleanser, as it has aloe barbadensis leaf powder, which is derived from aloe vera, and contains 0% alcohol to remove deep dirt, oil, and even waterproof makeup without stripping your skin’s moisture. Aside from this, the brand also offers the Derma Skin Clear Deep Pore Cleanser. It promises to prevent and treat acne breakouts with its formula, which is infused with salicylic acid, sea salt, and niacinamide specifically formulated for blemish-prone skin.
2. Hydrating toner
While many don’t see it as a necessity, a well-rounded skincare routine is one that has a toner included in the mix. “If you look at your regimen, toner plays a big role in it ‘cause it prepares your skin for absorbing your face products. So if you want your face products to be most effective, then always prepare your skin first with a toner,” said Nikki Seelen, marketing director of Beiersdorf Philippines, the German company that manufactures Nivea products.
The POST interviewed Seelen at Nivea’s event in Antipolo last April 8, where the brand introduced its “Circle of Trust”—a group of ambassadors who embody the brand’s ideal that healthy skin enables and empowers anyone.

For glowing skin during the sweltering summer months, Seelen recommends the Nivea Refreshing Toner, as it comes with Vitamin E and Hydramine that not only removes residues, but also moisturizes and refreshes the skin.

3. Nourishing serum
Serum can keep your face fresh during summer, as long as it comes with ingredients like Vitamin C that can help protect the skin against UV damage. Opting for one with hyaluronic acid will help maintain your skin’s moisture levels, prevent dryness, and keep it plump and healthy. Niacinamide, meanwhile, strengthens the skin barrier and reduces redness.

Seelen recommends Nivea’s Luminous 360 Spotclear Serum, which is infused with Vitamin E and hyaluronic acid that moisturizes the skin, plus fades dark spots. It was also upgraded recently to include thiamidol, which reduces hyperpigmentation and evens out skin tone.
“For the night, I would recommend a product that penetrates the skin deeply,” Seelen added. “For example, our Extra Bright 10 Super Vitamins & Skin Food Serum, which contains Vitamin A and antioxidants to renew the skin and prevent dullness from sun exposure. It also has SPF 15 to keep you protected from sunlight.”
4. Lightweight moisturizers
For summer, look for moisturizers that are lightweight, oil-free, and non-comedogenic. These formulas prevent clogged pores and excess shine, which makes it ideal for the warm weather. Meanwhile, ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and aloe vera provide long-lasting hydration.

Nivea’s Soft Moisturizing Cream is a viable option as this light, fast-absorbing moisturizer is infused with Vitamin E and Jojoba oil that keeps the skin hydrated, leaving it soft and supple.
5. Broad-spectrum sunscreen
Sunscreen is a non-negotiable in any season, hot or cold. Use a broad-spectrum SPF 50 that protects against UVA and UVB rays, just like the Nivea Sun Protect & Moisture Lotion. This sunscreen promises long-lasting moisture and protection with its SPF of 50 and UVA/UVB filter system that is enhanced with advanced collagen.

If you have sensitive skin, choose the ones with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, as they won’t cause irritation. For best results, apply the sunscreen 15 to 20 minutes before stepping out and reapply every two to three hours.
