The luxury fashion house’s theme centering on misinformation and manipulation added depth and a social dimension to the star-studded show.
Italian high fashion women’s clothing and accessory brand Miu Miu is known for its affinity for young talent. The label’s most recent fashion shows, for instance, have been headlined by youthful celebrities such as Troye Sivan, Emma Corrin, and Mia Goth.
But for last night’s Miu Miu spring/summer 2025 runway show, two not-so-young names stole the show. First it was 50-year-old Hilary Swank, who sashayed down the runway in a stunning chocolate brown patent leather trench coat wrapped with three belts. The belts were a silver floral filigree chain belt, a gold chain belt held together by ovular rings, and a brown leather belt with an oversize buckle.
The trench coat was accessorized with a pair of bubblegum pink patent leather slides that featured a gray sock-like knit panel. The Million Dollar Baby hardly had any makeup on but looked every bit as radiant and confident—it seemed as if she was born to walk the runway!
Closing the show was Hollywood screen legend Willem Dafoe, who made a surprise return to the runway 12 years after walking in Prada’s memorable ‘Villains’ show. The actor, known mainly for his antagonist roles, was all glammed up in a navy overcoat and sweater, which he paired with a white button-up and gray pleated trousers.
Meanwhile, stars in the front row included Camila Cabello, Blackpink’s Jennie, and Addison Rae.
More than the big names, it was the luxury fashion house’s theme centering on misinformation and manipulation which added depth and a social dimension to the star-studded show. Set in a dystopian newspaper printing press, complete with a conveyor belt carrying The Truthless Times, a fictional paper by the Polish artist Goshka Macuga. The show follows two characters, Pathos and Logos, who live as researchers/spy amid steel benches, a techno soundtrack, cartoonish sound effects, and factory noises. A short film by Macuga touching on the themes was shown before the first model walked the runway.
The looks were nostalgic. There were vintage pieces, layered polos, ’70s prints, wispy floral skirts, patent trench coats, and nods to the house of Miu Miu through the decades.
1920s style also took center stage with wide-cut flapper dresses that were styled open in the back to reveal sporty bras; and all-white Edwardian cotton dresses and skirts covered in Art Deco sequin details. These were paired with dual-color windbreakers that were very much the ’80s, knitted leg warmers, and brightly colored heels.
Miu Miu’s latest womenswear collection combined the label’s preppy-meets-sporty trademark sensibilities with luxe crushed leather pieces and bold, colorful patterns—combinations only a Miuccia Prada can impeccably pull off.
