When the BGC flagship store and showroom opens, it will be the fourth in Southeast Asia, following Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.
It looks like Tesla is finally coming to our shores! The American multinational automotive and clean energy company has begun constructing its flagship store and showroom in the Philippines. Recent job listings in the country have also been spotted, per reports on Auto Industriya and Bilyonaryo.
To quash any speculation, street decals for the upcoming Tesla store have been seen at Uptown Parade in BGC, Taguig, right across from Uptown Mall. Judging by appearances, the soon-to-open Tesla dealership will be quite spacious.
The BGC location already includes several EV charging stations, so it’s not too far-fetched to anticipate the installation of Tesla Superchargers in the coming months.
Once the BGC flagship store opens, it will be Tesla’s fourth in Southeast Asia, after launching in Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand last year. Tesla also has locations in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, along with its “gigafactory” production facility in Shanghai, China.
While Tesla hasn’t yet launched sales of its coveted vehicles in the country, local media outlets have reported that the automaker could launch sales by the end of this year. The Elon Musk-led private space company SpaceX already launched its Starlink internet services in the Philippines last February, after the decision had been approved in 2022 by the National Telecommunications Commission.
Tesla has also reportedly deployed some of its energy products for individual projects in the country, contributing to stabilizing local power grids in select communities.
The opening of a Tesla location in the Philippines comes just over a month after the company scrapped its plans to build gigafactories in Thailand and Malaysia. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said intense competition from Chinese rivals influenced Tesla’s decision, as reported on the South China Morning Post.
Despite this setback, a recent report by Bloomberg NEF’s Economic Transition Scenario paints a rather rosy picture for electric vehicles (EV) in the region. The report said that Southeast Asia is poised to be a global EV industry hub. Looking ahead, it projects passenger EV sales to reach nearly 2.7 million units by 2040, representing 56% of total vehicle sales.
For those dreaming of working for Musk’s company, Tesla’s job openings in the Philippines can be found on its career page, with all current roles located in Taguig.
The positions available include Order Operations Specialist, Project Developer for Home Charging, Store Manager, Service Manager, and Delivery Manager. Tesla Philippines is also hiring for sales advisors, HR staff, and customer support roles.
