Collectible items you’d want to cop from Pharrell Williams’ Joopiter Marketplace

A pair of Gucci x Tom Ford sneakers, an Hermés Ostrich Birkin, and Elizabeth Taylor’s gray pearl & diamond ring—all these are rare, but more so the stories behind them.

Farfetch, Sotheby’s, and Net-a-Porter must be shaking. It looks like they’ve just gained a new competitor. Music icon and fashion designer Pharrell Williams has expanded his auction platform, Joopiter, to include a curated online marketplace offering rare, collectible, and pre-owned luxury goods.

Well, besides that it is owned by Pharrell, Joopiter Marketplace is no ordinary luxury e-commerce website, as it features the treasured keepsakes of his closest A-list friends and fellow collectors. This includes artist Tom Sachs, jeweler Lorraine Schwartz, entrepreneur and gallerist Easy Otabor, and music executive Steven Victor.

First launched in 2022, Joopiter is famous among collectors, curators, and creators not only for its curated selection of collectibles, but more so because of its emphasis on the narratives behind these objects. Pharrell previously told Financial Times that Joopiter stemmed from his desire to create a platform that would sell his own collection in a manner that other companies couldn’t. Its website states that its auctions are “curated with knowledge and care.”

Now that it has expanded to the instant-purchase category, Joopiter Marketplace aims to streamline the process of securing iconic fashion and cultural pieces by bypassing the wait of auctions and making them ready for shipping with a single click. Pharrell said in a report by WWD that the move is part of Joopiter’s evolution as a platform that prioritizes authenticity and rarity.

“Joopiter was founded to not only introduce a new voice into the auction landscape, but to recalibrate what it means to be a collector,” Pharrell said. “With Joopiter Marketplace, we are bolstering our founding principles by expanding our ecosystem. We are excited to bring these objects to the world.”

Joopiter is living up to its promise, as seen in its inaugural collection, where each item holds a unique story and extreme rarity. Here are some of the collectibles you might want to cop if you want to dress cool like Pharrell, dazzle with Schwartz’s jewels, or earn bragging rights and swag for simply adding more value to your memorabilia.

Pharrell Williams customized Timberland boots

As an artist who has been making waves in music and fashion, Pharrell is all for self expression. And if there was one fashion item that would best reflect one’s personality, that, for Pharrell, would be his shoes (next to hats, of course). For the launch of Joopiter Marketplace, the music producer has put up his customized Timberland leather boots on sale for USD 4,200 (PHP 234,000). Pharrell reimagined the iconic silhouette by decoratingit with graffiti-style inscriptions like “CHANGE,” “THE WORLD,” “YOUR TIME,” “EQUALITY VIA EDUCATION,” and “PUNK TRIBE.”

Gucci x Tom Ford SS01 White Dragon Sneakers

A piece that is sure to turn the heads of sneakerheads. Up for grabs on the Joopiter Marketplace is Pharrell’s Gucci Tom Ford SS01 White Dragon Sneakers, which retails at USD 840 (PHP 46,753). It is considered a rare pair for many reasons. For one, the kicks are designed by Tom Ford, who was responsible for reviving Gucci when he served as its creative director from 1994 to 2004. This, combined with Gucci’s luxury branding and the distinct dragon motif, contributes to the pair’s high value and rarity.

Hermés Ostrich Tri-color Birkin 35

If you’re planning to spend an eye-watering sum on a Birkin, you might as well go for one with a deep(er) story. This Hermés Ostrich Tri-color Birkin 35 (USD 36,900 or PHP 2 million) came fresh out of the closet of jewelry legend Lorraine Schwartz. It’s a limited edition due to several factors, particularly its exotic ostrich leather, unique tri-color design, and striking colorways. But what ultimately sets it apart is how dear the bag is to Schwartz. According to Joopiter’s website, the jewelry designer “purchased it as a gift for her beloved aunt Debbie,” who looked after it as “one of her most prized possessions.” Today, this rare Birkin not only carries rarity and elegance, but “the enduring energy of love, legacy, and family.”

House of Taylor Gray Pearl & Diamond Ring

The South Sea pearl in this House of Taylor Gray Pearl & Diamond ring is rare, but rarer is the story behind it. This ring was created and owned by iconic American actress Elizabeth Taylor before it fell into the hands of Schwartz. Bold, brilliant, and elegant like its original owner, this ring features a South Sea pearl at the center, a halo of round-cut white diamonds, and a three-row diamond-set band. It retails on Joopiter Marketplace for USD 41,200 (PHP 2.3 million).

Louis Vuitton x Takashi Murakami Multicolore Monogram Coin Purse

It’s no surprise that Joopiter Marketplace features a slew of Louis Vuitton buys. Pharell is the house’s men’s creative director after all. And for the platform’s launch earlier this week, he made sure to include a Louis Vuitton x Takashi Murakami Multicolor Monogram coin purse into the mix. Like the LV x Murakami re-edition collection released in January, this coin purse from 2004 features the Japanese artist’s iconic Multicolor Monogram, which reimagines the LV logo in 33 vibrant colors. What ultimately sets it apart is the cause behind its sale. According to Joopiter, net proceeds will benefit the Rebuild Foundation and The Virgil Ablohi Foundation that both support community-focused creativity and education.
